About Aries
Being the first sign of the zodiac, Aries pretty much see themselves as FIRST. This is the source of Aries being a fiery starter, leader and trailblazer. Aries marks the beginning of the four seasons with Spring in the Northern Hemisphere. Aries’ fire element is the lightest, brightest element. This is the Aries affinity for being an inspiration, for their impulsivity, and assertiveness. As a cardinal fire sign, Aries likes to move around and travels a zillion miles an hour. It can be hard to keep up with an empowered Aries. They are front of the line and first responders, fearlessly and impulsively springing into action, reacting immediately to and thriving in crises or challenges.
Aries is symbolized by The Ram. First recognized in Babylonian times, Aries was known as ‘The Hired Man’ who was associated with agriculture and shepherding. In Egyptian astronomy, The Ram’s association continued through the sun god Amon-Ra, who had a human body and Ram’s head. Amon-Ra ruled over vital forces that set Spring and regeneration in motion; fertility and creativity. In Greek mythology, The Ram was sent by Zeus to rescue the children of The King of Thebes. The children were about to meet their demise, but the flying Ram took them away in the nick of time. The Ram was sacrificed in thanks, hung on a sacred grove where the fleece turned to gold. The name Aries is derived from ‘Ares’, the Greek god of war.
The Ram has come to represent male fertility, aggression and courage. A Ram’s horn is the cornucopia, symbolizing abundance. Rams are symbols of leadership. Aries natives are said to be leaders and pioneers. Aries natives are thought to approach life “head-on”.
Aries correlates to the tarot card The Emperor. This card depicts a resolute warrior-king archetype, seated on the throne, decorated by The Ram’s head. This card suggests that you are on top of things and they are under your control. It could also let you know moments in life when we need to call on fearlessness to assert ourselves. The Emperor could be a fatherly energy, protecting and providing for loved ones. It’s easy to see the associations of this card with Aries.
With the planetary ruler being Mars, Aries enjoy diving headfirst into what they are passionate about. As the planet of desire, action, war and heat, Mars is responsible for lots of traits that we associate with Aries. Mars gives us instinctual survival and the leftover parts of animal nature in humans; our drive, how we express anger and sexual desires. This is the reason why Aries is so instinctual. Aries seems to always be ready for battle, which is important for emergencies where quick action is needed, but can be intense in everyday life when the stakes aren’t that high.
The Aries mantra ‘I am’ is all about asserting individual expression and self-authority. Aries are natural trailblazers, going forward into unknown territory to clear the road ahead for others. The boldness, risk, confidence and energy it takes to start a project or phase in life is Aries. This sign marks the beginning of something energetic and turbulent.
Aries can be intimidating, ferocious, but also energetic and inspiring. They have a youthful quality that is charming. Aries are direct, straight-forward and uncomplicated. They’re often confused when people don’t act the same way. What is happening right now is important to Aries, so they aren’t big on planning ahead. They have a very basic quality of bravery that is unmistakable. Aries are bold, and even the quiet ones are brave and plucky in their own way. Aries do things the way that they want, their way.
Aries feel fear, but have learned to act anyway, always striving to overcome limiting beliefs or self-doubt. Aries are driven by a desire to prove themselves and their strength. They are highly self-aware, have strong opinions and are always ready to defend them. Aries natives will always be ready to be direct when it comes to expressing themselves. Aries tend to be impulsive, impatient and hotheaded. They don’t apologize for their anger. They say, ‘I don’t care’ and mean it. They don’t have the best self-control, so they need to learn how to be more patient. These folks don’t tend to hold a grudge, preferring to air out their differences and move on.
Communication is potentially the biggest challenge of all for Aries placements, who may already be out the door by the time the conversation is getting started. Though they may benefit from listening to others, they don’t enjoy hearing recommendations or advice, preferring to learn from personal experience. Aries are often the cause of their own turmoil. All Aries want to feel things intensely, which is why they can be prone to reckless risk-taking. It also means they are often reacting out of emotions rather than a place of calm, clear-headedness. They must remember to slow down, listen to their body, and know that everything doesn’t have to be done at lightning speed! Sometimes just simply being can be an action too.

This can be a bright time for new beginnings - new projects, jobs or relationships. It’s more broadly a time for thinking boldly. Confidence can come off as aggression, but it’s often simply straight-forward and unwilling to tiptoe around something or lie. Aries carries powerful drive and determination. This is a season of acting passionately and precisely. It’s time to find out specific areas of life that we approach in a direct way, or where we need to call in the energy of Aries for mastery. During Aries season, being direct may bring forward some power you didn’t even know that you had!
Despite being the time to start new things, it might not be the easiest time to think long-term. Look at your smaller goals, or break your bigger goals into smaller ones. Aries wants to get things done quickly! Seeing progress will be more inspiring. Make a priority list. With all of this energy, be sure it doesn’t go to waste.
Repressed anger and frustration can be at an all-time high. Aries might cause us to blurt things out without thinking! Be wary of putting your foot in your mouth or hurting people’s feelings. There is being straightforward, and there is being hurtful. Know the difference.
Say what you mean, and then move on. It can be a great time to release grudges and let go of those negative feelings that are weighing you down.
With Aries season, you have the confidence and don’t need permission to act! Live exactly as you are.
