Solar Eclipse in Libra

On October 14, there will be a Solar Eclipse in Libra. Eclipses can shake us up, but bring endings and beginnings that are much needed. We could be considering our connections with others and the balance in our lives during this time.

Eclipses can open a door that was shut, bring news of huge life events, or could lead to a major turning point in your life. Eclipses will try to get us to pay attention to the areas of life that need change. An Eclipse could provide a sense of closure or resolution to unresolved issues in our lives. It could expose flaws in important systems in our life, asking us to start over or do it again. Something could end so that we can start new. Things could seem fated to happen, for better or worse.

During this time, take news, signals and even gossip seriously. News can be delivered in a dramatic or strange way. Learn, investigate, and don’t ignore it. Take any messages, whether they are big or small, that you get from an Eclipse as non-negotiable and firm. The Eclipse wants you to have a new experience, so be open to change.

A Solar Eclipse occurs around two weeks before a Lunar Eclipse. News or events related to the Eclipse may not happen on the day of the eclipse itself, but within the week leading up to it. Think back to what happened within the month. We could find out that our Eclipse news came early.

If nothing seems to happen, it could be something that affects a close friend or family member. The Eclipse may not be in a super obvious place in our chart. Subtle changes can be just as important.

If we suffer under an Eclipse, we should be patient and open-minded. If we don’t like where we end up, we can make changes, but they cannot be backtracking. Eclipses are there to illuminate something in our life. It is there to protect and help us. Always be grateful for the truth, even when it’s hard.

The New Moon brings fresh energy into our lives, and this time, since it is in Libra, it brings fresh energy to our relationships. It’s a great time to commit to personal goals that express the positive energies of Libra, such as establishing more harmony in our environments, establishing a sense of order and balance in our lives, and recognizing the value of partnership.

But as a Solar Eclipse, this New Moon packs a lot more punch. Eclipses arrive in pairs, and when they shift, we get fresh lessons, experiences and surprises. This Eclipse is the second set that is occurring along the Aries-Libra axis, from April 20, 2023 - March 29, 2025. The first was a Solar Eclipse in Aries, focusing on building our independence and working on assertiveness since April.

On October 14, the Solar Eclipse and New Moon in Libra will bring a six-month cycle of growth surrounding our relationship dynamics and finding balance in our life. This will be a chance to make changes that bring peace and beauty as the end result.

This Eclipse will allow us to let go of connections that are no longer serving us. We will also be letting go of anything that is limiting our relationship dynamics. We can let go of outdated expectations about art, fashion, justice and love. We can discard any interpersonal habits that are no longer serving us, particularly things like being overly accommodating of others and having an excessive reliance on others.

From always going with our friend’s idea of where to eat to smiling through conversations that crush our spirit, we will be asked to identify where we’re too tied up with other people’s agendas and cut those ropes. Letting go of our preconceived notions about relating to others will allow our systems to evolve more smoothly. This Eclipse reminds us that our interactions with others function better when we own our wants, needs and preferences. When we conceal our truths, we lose the chance for real intimacy. This will allow us more room for us to build bonds that align with our true desires, passion and strengths.

We may feel compelled to change our routine, which could lead to new solutions and new or innovative ideas, or on personal experience and observation.

Both our Solar Eclipse in Libra and Lunar Eclipse in Taurus are Venus Ruled. We have just had a Venus Retrograde where we learned some of our lessons about relationships and life’s pleasure. Venus is all about value, money, and how we love. We will notice where playing nice has contributed to power imbalances and notice issues surrounding women’s rights, gender and LGBTQ community, which could inspire us to summon bravery and firepower on behalf of meaningful causes.

With this chaotic energy mixing in with our more gentle and compassionate areas, it could feel confusing. Look out for unneeded arguments, self-sabotage, and financial problems. Balancing these areas, staying grounded and firm in boundaries, and keeping communication open will help us to make it through.

Throughout the weeks following, we will have some other things to look out for that might integrate into our Eclipse lessons. The following weekend Mercury will move into Scorpio, where reassurance will be important, so we should keep lines of communication open when it comes to our closest relationships.

Right before the Lunar Eclipse, the Sun is moving into Scorpio. This mysterious energy can bring up secrets. Don’t go looking for more than necessary. What is important will come to the surface. Focus this powerful energy on yourself.

A Lunar Eclipse paired with the Full Moon in Taurus hits on October 28, beginning an emotionally intense cycle. Our unmet or ignored needs might come forward, leaving us in a crisis of sudden awareness about these things. We might want to act fast, but need to look at the signs around us before we do to find a steady path, rather than lashing out in anger. We will dive more into this Lunar Eclipse in the coming weeks.

It might be worth looking back at what happened the last time there was an Eclipse in Libra. Find themes that surrounded our life back then to get a better understanding of what this Eclipse might mean for us. A Solar Eclipse at the same degree of Libra occurred on October 14, 2004. An Eclipse set along the Aries-Libra axis more recently occurred from 2013-2016.

Whatever rises to the surface, whether it is emotional distress or difficult conversations with someone close to you, don't make snap judgments or decisions. The best way to refresh will be to slow down and tune into what we need moment by moment. We should leave room in our schedules for breathing room against unforeseen events. Refrain from big decisions until after Eclipse season, if possible. Clean, purge and release.

While we’re met with reflection and transformation, it will leave us feeling drained. We will need to reevaluate our life’s balance. Rest and relax as much as possible during this Eclipse weekend. The best thing to do is lay low and allow the universe to work its magic.
